General Information

Aim of the Program

Department of International Trade aims to train the leaders of the future who are able to provide fast and accurate solutions to the problems encountered in working life and who are able to adapt to the changing world conditions and requirements and can easily use technological innovations. In this context, the aim and priority of the program is to provide the reasons behind the increasing global relations and the results of commercial globalization in both theoretical and practical terms to students at both local and international levels. In addition to the current foreign trade strategies in the field, students will be able to internalize international trade concepts and practices, support the development of qualified human resources in line with the needs and orientations of the global structure, are equipped with interdisciplinary information, take part in the work of local and global enterprises, focus on increasing the commercial scale and performance, and understand international competition and their policies and developments.

Target of the Program

Importance of international trade is growing in parallel with globalization and it is an important activity that accelerates the economic development of countries. However, in order to conduct efficient and productive international trade, qualified human resources are needed. Our program is composed of high quality course contents which are developed by professional academic staff. The primary goal of our department is to educate graduates who are able to work in interdisciplinary fields and who can produce solutions to problems with an international vision and a skill that they can create national and global competition strategies and who are entrepreneurial, confident, equipped with the necessary scientific and social skills, scientific thinking and management skills, the theoretical and practical application of competent and modern foreign trade strategies and policies in the field of banking and insurance, equip students with the knowledge of finance, economy, law and business and dominates international trade concepts and practices and involved in international trade activities of our country and enterprises and will increase import and export performances. 

Career Opportunities

The Graduates of International Trade Department can be employed in international organizations and multinational enterprises related with foreign trade activities in the private sector, as an executive assistant, manager, assistant specialist or expert; the Ministry of Economy in the public sector, the Ministry of Customs and Trade. In addition, our current curriculum offers a wide range of opportunities for our students and graduates to choose an academic career.

Working Places

The students of International Trade Department can work as administrative assistants, managers, specialist assistants or specialist positions in international and multinational enterprises related to the foreign trade activities in the private sector; may also be employed in the relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Trade, which are in the public sector. Our current curriculum also includes a wide range of opportunities for students and graduates to choose an academic career.

Programmes allowing Horizontal Transfer

Our department accepts students with lateral transfer within quotas in accordance with "Regulations Regarding the Transition between Programs at the Higher Education Institutions and Programs under the Bachelor's Degree Program, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Transfer among the Associate / Undergraduate Programs". 

Programmes allowing Vertical Transfer

All students who want to be enrolled in the Department by Vertical Transfer are placed by OSYM in case they get adequate score from the Vertical Transfer Examination. Students who fulfill all the requirements are entitled four years of undergraduate education at our university. Also, the associate degree students at Istanbul Gelisim University will have the chance to be enrolled with 50 percent scholarship if they are placed in paid program after DGS.
