OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to improve aptitude for examining the relations between local governments and democracy by taking into consideration the elements of local politics and questioning the element of leadership in local politics.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the subjects as in the management of local administrations, the difference between political and administrative decentralisation, local political mechanisms, approaches to urban politics, leadership in urban politics, communication strategies in local elections and the effect of leadership on voter behaviour.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Explain the basic concepts of local politics and leadership.
Identify the organs and mechanisms of local politics.
Relate between local political theories and voter behaviour.
Compare the local practices of politics in the world.
Differentiate the differences between political and administrative decentralisation.
Relate between the European Charter of Local Self-Government and Self-Government Implementations of Local Governments in Turkey.
