OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to examine the change in sustainability by urban management policies along with the process of implementation of basic urban services.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the subjects such as concepts of urban and urbanization, concept of sustainability, integration of City concept and sustainability, problems arising from urbanization process (i.e. population, ecological problems, housing and settling), the rise and acceptance of healthy and sustainable city concept, urbanization process and its problems in Turkey, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning Studies, Legal Implementation Tools of Urban Planning, Settlement Problems, Public Service and Housing, the Relationship between Housing and Urbanization, Security of Urban, Urbanite Rights, comparison of urban services developed with sustainability perception in the world and in Turkey.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Recall the basic values of the concept of sustainability.
Compare the urban services developed with sustainability perception in the world and in Turkey.
Summarize the urban sustainability approach along with basic facts as in population, natural resources, ecological problems, housing settlement, site and water.
Evaluate the healthy cities and rational settlement policies among the most important factors for sustainable management.
Define sustainable and inhabitable healthy cities and discuss their advantages.
