AMAÇ VE İÇERİK

Amaç: This course consists of two parts. First part concentrates on the specific theories of FPA that on different levels of analysis intent to examine foreign policy decision making. Before we proceed with this group of theories, students are invited to revisit theories of International Relations that are the essential basis for understanding the foreign policy of a state. Second part of the course focuses on specific case studies. Here, students are taught FPA with the references to concrete events and decisions. This part of the course is an actual application of the first part. Also, in order to help students understand FPA, the second part of the course include assignments. These are presentation of case studies – analysis of the specific events and decisions.
İçerik: The aim of this seminar is to introduce students to the most important frameworks of analysis in the study of foreign policy. In other words, it is meant to show and refine the tools students can use and level they should consider to understand foreign affairs.

By the end of this course, successful students will be able to: Understand, summarize and discuss the main approaches in foreign policy analysis.
Evaluate these approaches with regards to the methodologies they employ and their usefulness for the analysis of particular problems of international politics
Analyze a particular case from the perspective of one or more of these approaches
Make a presentation of an analysis completed by the students: an examination of the concrete event by means of FPA theories
