OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to create new interests and job opportunities by giving basic information about political communication and political campaigns.
Contents of the Course Unit: The contents of the course include the subjects such as definition and historical development of political communication, its relations with other fields, methods and techniques in political communication, types of political advertising and negative political advertising. Political communication in the media will be evaluated. The political campaign strategy will be explained step by step from a wide perspective. The content of the course includes political campaigns in national and international areas and their impact on voters.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Explain all the electoral systems between the dilemma of fairness in representation and stability in ruling.
Examine the elections held in Turkey between 1923 - 2018 and analyze the number of seats in the parliament in proportion to the votes of political parties and the vote preferences of the people by the elections.
Examine the election slogans used by the government and the opposition parties in the elections between 1923-2018 in order to address the public that were created with the support from professional institutions (advertising agencies, PR companies).
Determine the relationship between political communication and other areas.
Compare the level of development of public opinion by considering that the messages used in political communication are closely related to the level of development of the public.
