OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to enable the students to understand and explain basic sociological concepts by obtaining a sociological perspective, to distinguish sociological phenomena both as an institution and as a network of interaction in the process of change and to interpret the meaning, pattern and processes in the global world by using sociological knowledge and to explain the function of research.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the emergence of sociology as science, its development and function of sociology in the global era, sociological research methods, social groups and formal organizations, culture and socialization, social status and social roles, social stratification and social classes, politics, family and social gender, economic life, social deviation and basic concepts of crime, discussion in the historical-cultural context of modernization and globalization.

Knows the founders and major works of sociology as a science
Defins sociological concepts, gives examples by finding the factual equivalents of concepts in the global social world
Relates basic concepts of sociology with daily life
Relates main components of culture with social order
Evaluates cultural centrism, admiration of foreign culture and cultural relativity according to the principle of objectivity
Remembers the basic knowledge about family, politics and economics as a network of both institutions and social interaction, explains the processes related to these facts with concrete examples from the global world
Recognizes which methods should be used in which research
