OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to get the students acquainted with the basic concepts in the field of special education, to learn the fundamentals of special education, to have basic knowledge about the groups of children with special needs, to learn about development support programs and education techniques for the needs of individuals with special needs.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the subjects such as definition of special education and basic concepts, legal regulations related to special education, children with mental deficiency, children with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioural disorders, autism spectrum disorder, communication disorders, deafness and hearing loss, blindness and visual loss, Diagnostic criteria, prevalence levels and educational techniques related to Children with Superior Intelligence and Gifted Children.

List the prevalence levels of the special needs diagnostic groups in the society. (Bloom's 1)
Explain the basic principles of special education. (Bloom's 2)
Distinguish the developmental characteristics of children in different diagnostic groups with special needs. (Bloom's 4)
Decide on the legal procedure for children with special needs and the road map to be followed. (Bloom's 5)
Propose programs to support the development of children who need special education. (Bloom's 6)
