OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to enable students to comprehend the social dimensions of law and crime and to examine how crime should be positioned as a social concept in relation to law. It is aimed to gain a multifaceted perspective by considering the social origins of crime and the historical development of law.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; the development of law and its social function, the causes of crime, the relationship between law and crime, the historical origins of the rules ensuring the security of the community, the understanding of the socio-cultural foundations of crime in addition to the function of the law and the effect of the legal measures on crime, the reveal of the relationship of crime with concepts such as poverty, migration, exclusion, discrimination and racism.

Recognizes the concept of law as a social institution.
Interprets the social functions of law through historical knowledge that he/she learns.
Relates crime fact and social problems such as poverty, migration, exclusion, discrimination and racism.
Develops an awareness of his/her own society with the knowledge he/she learns during the course.
Distinguishes the social origins of the crime phenomenon.
Evaluates the relationship between social change and law.
