OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: To discuss main discourses and basic tools of Chinese foreign policy, give different point of views about the developments related to China’s rise and give insight and comprehensive understanding about China’s relations with important actors of ınternational arena and also with its neighbours.
Contents of the Course Unit: China’s changing perception of ınternational system and the changing role it atttributed itself, how China’s role as a rising power has been perceived by the important actors of international arena as well as China’s neighbours, current and potential issues of conflict and cooperation between China and the important actors of international arena and between China and its neighbours.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Will be able to analyze the experiences of China during the confrontation with the Western powers and the historical developments in the transition from empire to republic.
Will be able to compare and analyze China's relationship with its neighbors during the imperial period and the changing relationship style after the transition to the Republic and the establishment of the People's Republic of China.
Compare and analyze the foreign policy priorities and discourses of the different Presidents of the People's Republic of China.
Examine and analyze the ups and downs of the People's Republic of China, historically and today, in its relations with the great powers.
Evaluate and analyze the main problems between the People's Republic of China and its neighbors and regional powers.
