OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to help students understand the functions of education a social institution by addressing the basic approaches in sociology of education, developing sociological perspective on schools within the framework of the relationship between training and modernization as especially in Turkey, ensure them have knowledge about and comment on education system extending from university to primary education in the framework of both problems and solutions.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; approaches in the sociology of education, educational concepts and social functions, education and modernization in Turkey, and the discussions on the relationship between education and economic status and gender in Turkey and discussion on university education in Turkey.

Defines the sociology of education outlined.
Summarizes the social functions of education as a social institution.
Gives examples of educational policies in the world and compare these policies.
Criticizes the education system in the world and Turkey.
Argues about education problems in Turkey through the information learnt.
