OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to provide the student with the basic concepts and terms about Roman and Byzantine art in Anatolia with examples.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the architecture and architectural decorations of the Roman and Byzantine periods. Religious and civil structures, architectural examples, plan type and art of painting will be examined in the cities that fall into the borders of Anatolia. Byzantine wall paintings, miniature painting art, mosaic, pictures in icon and manuscripts, technique, style, sculpture and relief art, Byzantine ceramics.

Explain the basic qualities of Greek architecture.
Distinguish Greek sculptures according to periods.
List the characteristics of Greek relief art.
Distinguish the characteristics of Roman sculptures.
Interpret the periods of Byzantine history.
Explain the characteristics of Byzantine sculpture art.
