OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to teach basic sources, concepts and institutions of maritime law and to enable the students to determine a road map as a solution for disputes and legal problems that may arise in maritime trade law.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; subjects as in ship, flag, ship registry, ship ownership, ship mortgage, operation of the ship, equipping and operating concepts, equipment subsidiary, building partnership, captain, ship man, freight contract and its types and rights and obligations of the parties, documents in freight contracts, compulsory execution in sea law concepts and issues as in transfer of ship ownership, rescue in sea accidents, collision, dispatch, assistance, general average, lay time and demurrage, passenger carriage contracts, loading, unloading and delivery in overseas sales contracts.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Describe basic concepts like ship and crew.
Describe real rights on the ship and the structure of the association of shipowners.
Explain the authority and responsibility of the Captain.
Analyze different contract types, their results, contents and the responsibility of the sender, transporter, carrier and each contract type related to the equipment.
Explain ship regulations and procedures.
