The COVID-19 pandemic led to a decrease in physical activity levels worldwide, and many individuals who experienced the disease developed health problems affecting various systems, particularly the respiratory and musculoskeletal systems. In addition, according to World Health Organization data, the global population is ageing rapidly, increasing the importance of healthy ageing.

In the Industry 5.0 era, working conditions that promote sedentary lifestyles among adults, reduced physical activity among children alongside technological advances, and increasing rates of obesity have all contributed to a growing need for physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.

Health problems such as musculoskeletal disorders, cardiopulmonary diseases, obesity, and diabetes are among the current and continuously developing areas of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation that are particularly important for healthy ageing. There is a continuing need for scientific research across all fields of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, as well as for qualified physiotherapists who can provide rehabilitation services to patients in clinical settings.
