OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The purpose of this course is to give the basic understanding of the nature and the causes of production, trade, terms of trade, North-South trade relations, foreign debt, foreign direct investment, global production system, and the topics which form the basis of 'international political economy'.
Contents of the Course Unit: Theories which attempt to explain international trade. Theories of comparative advantage based on labour productivity and natural resources. New trade theories. International factor movements. The instruments of trade policy. The political economy of trade policy. Trade policy in developing countries. Controversies in trade policy.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Upon successful completion of this course, the students are expected to: - Enhance their knowledge and skills needed for following developments and trends in the world trade,
Understand the working of the world trade, - Identify the major economic problems confronting the world trade, - Identify and explain the primary causes of these problems, - Identify and explain the principal political economy effects of these problems, - Critically analyze the reasons and welfare effects of international trade.
