OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to help students have a general understanding of the western philosophy from Renaissance period to the 20th century and to analyze and evaluate philosophical concepts and problems in a historical context.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; the philosophy of Renaissance, reformation, 17th century Enlightenment philosophy, Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, Hume, Berkeley, Locke, Kant, Nietzsche, Sartre and Foucault.

Students identify the historical development of western philosophy from the Renaissance to the 20th century.
Students explain the ideas and positions of the most important philosophers in historical development.
Students classify the different philosophical periods of the Western philosophy from the Renaissance to the 20th century.
Students analyze how philosophical concepts emerged and developed in the historical context.
Students evaluate the most important problems of western philosophy in historical context.
