OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS
Objectives of the Course Unit:	Bu dersin amacı; sosyal bilimlerde özellikle 1960’lardan itibaren gündeme gelen mekanın ne olduğuna ilişkin tartışmaların ışığında “kentsel mekanın” tanımını yapmak, mekan üzerine farklı yaklaşımlarla birlikte sosyal bilimlerinin mekan konusuna yaklaşımını ve farklılıklarını göstermek, mekan-birey etkileşimi üzerine öğrencinin sosyolojik bir perspektif geliştirmesini sağlamaktır.
Contents of the Course Unit:	Bu dersin içeriğini; mekanın bir kavram olarak ne demek olduğu, mekana karşı geliştirilen disiplinlerarası yaklaşımlar, sosyal bilimlerin mekana coğrafi ve mimari bakış açısından farklı olarak getirdiği betimleme, kentsel mekan, mekan – birey etkileşimi, mekan sosyolojisinde temel yaklaşımlar, fenomenolojik yaklaşım, sosyolojik ve sosyo-psikolojik yaklaşımlar, Marksist yaklaşımlar, Lefebvre’nin mekan kavramsallaştırması, soyut mekan ve toplumsal mekan kavramları oluşturmaktadır.

Mekan kavramı üzerine temel tartışma ve yaklaşımları özetler.
Mekan üzerine farklı yaklaşımlardan edindiği bilgilerle, kentsel mekan üzerine bilgisini gündelik hayatındaki deneyimlerini anlatmak için kullanır.
Mekan üzerine coğrafya, mimarlık gibi disiplinlerarası yaklaşımlar aracılığıyla, mekana sosyolojik yaklaşıma karşılaştırmalı yaklaşır.
Kendisine mekana ilişkin yaklaşımlar sorulduğunda, bu yaklaşımları femonemolojik, sosyolojik ve sosyo psikolojik, Marksist yaklaşımlar olarak kategorilere ayırır.
Lefebvre’nin kavramsallaştırmasından öğrendiği bilgiler aracılığıyla, mekan türlerini soyut ve toplumsal mekan olarak kategorilere ayırır.
Kentsel mekan ile birey arasındaki diyalektik ilişkiyi yorumlar.
