OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: Objective of the course is to provide students the ability to apply first aid techniques used in cases of drowning and injury in the water.
Contents of the Course Unit: the standard flags and whistle signs in the pool, the bronze, silver and gold lifeguard levels, safety measures in lifeguarding, swimming, life swimming techniques, remaining above the water, moving below the water, reasons for drowning, staying alive in water for a long time, survival rules, first aid techniques in cases of drowning, rescue techniques in drowning, life saving techniques in water, struggle techniques, methods of carrying injured in water and application studies.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Describe the competencies of bronze, silver and gold lifeguarding levels.
Describe the intended use of life-saving materials.
Apply the transportation techniques of injured persons in drowning cases.
Apply first aid techniques in drowning cases.
Examine current developments in first aid practices related to drowning and injuries in the water.
Choose from the first aid techniques to be applied in cases of drowning and injury.
