Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The objective of this course is to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of statistics, data collection and analysis methods, and to provide an understanding of probability, distributions, confidence intervals, and basic statistical inference. By the end of the course, students will be able to interpret diverse data sets, use appropriate summative measures, and make simple statistical inferences.
Content: This course covers the fundamental concepts and methods of statistics. It covers data collection, classification, and tabular and graphical summarization techniques. It covers measures of central tendency and dispersion, probability theory, independent and conditional events, discrete and continuous probability distributions, Bayes' theorem, sampling distributions, and standard deviation. It also covers confidence intervals and basic statistical inference methods. Students will reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical work on real data sets.
