Objectives and Contents

Objectives: Energy and its types, phase changes, pure substances, application of the conservation of energy principle to practice for open and closed systems.
Content: Basic concepts, units and systems; System properties; Equilibrium state; Concepts of energy, work, heat; Work-heat relationship; PV diagram; Pure substance; PVT relationship; Ideal gas equation; Real gases; Pure substances, First law of thermodynamics; Relations between enthalpy-internal energy and specific heat; General energy equation; Application of the first law to closed and open systems; Phase changes of ideal gases. Properties (Property relations, PV, TS diagrams), Ideal gas equation and phase changes of ideal gases, 1st law of thermodynamics, 2nd law of thermodynamics.
