Aim of the Program

This department aims to raise well-equipped translators who are conscious about the work ethics, having a good command of the translation field, having knowledge about the translation tools, and able to make verbal and written translations in various areas such as social sciences, literature, and international relations.

Target of the Program

Our departmental target is to raise well-equipped translators who are able to inquire, think critically and decide properly regarding translation field.

Career Opportunities

English Translation and Interpreting students are candidates of working in governmental institutions such as the Ministry of Justice as translators, working for all publishing houses as translators or editors, working for translation agencies, or becoming a freelance translator.v Also, our students can take Master of Arts and Doctoral degrees to be become an academician.

Future of the Department

The translation industry is a vital part of its global world. As businesses become globalized and global communication increases, the industry is growing rapidly with the need for real-time translations, and the need for translators is also increasing. For this reason, the need for the Department of English Translation and Interpretation will increase in order to train qualified translators. Exchange of technology and scietific discoveries will never end and that is why the need for translation will be always there. Some neigbouring civilizations started by relying on translation of the works of temporary civilizations.

Who Should Choose

The Department of English and Translation and Interpreting is suitable for every individual who wants to work with more than one language and improve himself by translating, as it is a field that is based on knowing and using both Turkish and English languages at an advanced level and takes translation studies seriously. In fact, there is a wide scope of jobs available for our students. Translation students can work in banks, TV & Radio stations, daily newspapers, embassies, ministeries, etc. They can have their own translation companies as well.

Programmes allowing Horizontal Transfer

English Tanslation and Interpreting accepts students in undergraduate transfer within quotas in the direction of "Regulations Regarding Transition Between Bilingual and Bachelor Level Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Credit Transfer of Double Major, Minor and Minor Institutions".

Programmes allowing Vertical Transfer

All students who want to pass to Vertical Transfer to Department of English Translation and Interpreting are placed by the Student Selection and Placement Center(ÖSYM) when they get enough poing from the Vertical Transition Examination(DGS).
