OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: To inform the student about the necessity and need for orthodontic treatment, the indication and planning of removable treatment with simple appliances, and to equip the student with sufficient orthodontic knowledge to be able to inform the patient about current orthodontic treatment techniques when necessary.
Contents of the Course Unit: 1. To have knowledge about the current use of corrective orthodontic treatment. 2. To understand the interdisciplinary approach by observing patient examples followed together with other branches. 3. To know the iatrogenic effects of orthodontic treatment. 4. To understand the necessity of retention after orthodontic treatment and to have knowledge about retention methods. 5. To have knowledge about current applications in orthodontics.

(Students will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and/or competencies specified below upon successful completion of this course.) 1. Selecting and prioritizing treatment options according to the needs of each patient. Informing the patient about possible orthodontic treatment methods. 2. Knowing the characteristics, indications and modes of action of orthodontic devices. 3. Being aware of current treatment techniques such as interdisciplinary approach, clear plates, digital orthodontics, adult or adolescent treatment, knowing the complications of orthodontic treatment. 4. Being aware of the limits and knowing when to refer to a specialist. 5. Performing orthodontic evaluation in the mixed dentition period and conducting preventive and interceptive treatment.
