OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to examine the relationship between social structure and culture in basic sociological approaches and to explain the functional role of culture in the continuity of social structure. Besides, gaining the student the ability to make evaluations about the changing concept of culture with globalization.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; defining the concept of culture, dealing with the concept in classical and contemporary sociological discussion, the relation of culture with other social institutions, the use of culture, and cultural discussions in Turkey along with the concept of culture and globalization.

Defines the concept of culture within the framework of its relationship with the social structure.
Summarizes the classical approaches developed in relation to the concept of culture.
Summarizes the contemporary approaches developed in relation to the concept of culture.
Interprets the development and change of culture in a society by taking into account both local and global developments.
Distinguishes the social function of culture.
Evaluates qualitative and quantitative data of the research on culture in Turkey.
