OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to examine the concepts such as health-related illness, health, health policies, medical science, biological citizenship, biopolitics in the social structure and to enable students to establish a causal relationship between community and health. In addition; it is aimed that the student will recognize the theoretical and practical approaches to generalizations by investigating these relations in the field of health sociology.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; definition of Health Sociology and the content of the field, the dimensions and historical development of the relationship between social sciences and medicine, the reason why we need the perspective of health sociology, understanding the importance of the field of view and evaluation, the change in the relationship between health and society and the historical origins of this change, the introduction of the first studies which are the source of health sociology, the concepts of health - disease and the definition of these concepts at the social level, personal and social meanings of the disease, revealing the cultural meanings of diseases and symptoms, understanding of the relationship between family, population, city, class and health, understanding the development of public health and its historical processes, evaluating the contribution to health sociology, a historical survey done on medicalizing processes, understanding of biopolitics concept within the framework of health sociology, health policy in Turkey and the understanding of the similarities-differences with Western society, evaluation of the health policies today and current studies in health sociology.

Defines the relationship between health and sociology, rememberS the concepts he/she learned about sociology giveS examples of how these concepts relate to health.
Uses the concepts of existing approaches in the field of health sociology.
Explains the historical origins of sociology of health and interdisciplinary structure with examples by interpreting the relationship between social sciences and medicine.
Interprets the historical development of public health and its relationship with social sciences by establishing causality
Compares the social contents of the concepts of disease and health on the basis of individual and social meanings.
Evaluates the relationship between the concepts of disease and health with sociological concepts such as population, city and family.
Researchs on the sociology of health in Turkey by supporting with the information he/she gained during the period
