OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: In this course, it is aimed for the student to learn the concepts of "child" and "children's literature" in all aspects, to study the role of literature in child development, to have information about the product of children's literature in the world and Turkey, and to develop the ability to evaluate whether a work is suitable for the development level of the child. Another goal of the course is to increase the students' awareness of the social and intercultural conditions that shape children's literature.
Contents of the Course Unit: This course will explain the history of Children's and Youth Literature; Persons, institutions, and associations are working in this field will introduce scientific publications and awards. We will give information about children's newspapers and magazines published in Turkey from the Tanzimat to the present. We will discuss the concept of "child" from an educational, scientific, and psychological point of view; the conditions that ensure that product is suitable for the target audience in terms of technique and content will be explained; we will evaluate sample texts in this respect. Students will prepare an assignment to assess a work they have chosen from World or Turkish literature. Thus they will have the opportunity to develop their critical thinking, reading, and article writing skills throughout the semester. In addition, we will present these assignments in class. Thus, students will have the opportunity to think and discuss many works, and they will strengthen their verbal communication skills by exchanging ideas about different products.

Remember information and views on the historical development of children's literature.
Recognize authors, poets and their products in classical and contemporary children's literature.
Explain the importance of children's literature in the education of new generations.
Categorize children's and youth literature using criteria such as age, gender, and literary genre.
Examine the features that should and should not be found in children's literature products.
Assess a children's literature product in terms of the qualities it should have.
