OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to explain the concept of social institution, to provide an understanding of the role of social institutions in the organization and existence of society and to reveal the functional relationship between the individual and the social institutions. In this course, it is aimed to give students a good understanding of the subject by giving examples of concrete and everyday life related to social institutions.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include the answers to the questions of what the social institution is, what makes the social institutions, why the society needs social institutions, why the social institutions need the individual and how the social structure is maintained.

Defines the concept of social institution.
Summarizes the theoretical approaches about the relationship between individual and social institutions.
Gives examples to family institutions such as family, religion, law, education and politics.
Distinguishes the functions of social institutions.
Evaluates the functions of social institutions in the continuity of social order.
Criticizes the functions of social institutions with examples from daily life.
