OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: It is aimed to provide students competence about the basic concepts and approaches of the science of psychology and its field of practice, and to create a basis for the courses they will take in the coming years of their studies by providing them with awareness of the possible relationships between them and the way they explain psychological phenomena.
Contents of the Course Unit: This course includes the definition of psychology, its fields of study and sub-branches, research and application methods in psychology, neurobiological foundations of psychology and the structure of the brain, developmental psychology, theories in psychology, learning, remembering and thinking, sensation and perception.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Explain the development of the science of psychology. Defines the basic concepts of psychology. Recognize different psychological currents and explain the differences between them. Understands the importance of social and environmental factors in the emergence of behavior. Defines subfields related to psychology. Relates behavior, sensation, consciousness, memory, learning, cognition, personality and abnormal behaviors.
