OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The objective of the course is to provide the students with the knowledge and skills to compare and analyze the developments and events in the olympic games in chronological order, the organization and operation of the olympic games in the ancient civilizations and the modern olympic games.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include; Basic concepts of philosophy, Examination of sport in a philosophical context, Movement-Game philosophy and contest, Competition, Solidarity, Sports as a problem of Winning and Losing, Historical development of Olympism and teaching of Olympic values.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Define the basic concepts of philosophy, sport philosophy and olympism.
Describe the relation between philosophy and sport philosophy.
Summarize the theories about sports philosophy.
Examine and interpret the developments and events in the Olympic games in chronological order.
Compare the organization and functioning of ancient olympic games and modern olympic games.
