OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to provide the students with the knowledge and skills to explain how social gender is represented in the media and how it is negotiated, within the framework of the basic concepts and theoretical approaches related to social gender.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include providing awareness about the basic concepts on social gender as a social construction, how social gender is represented in media and how it is negotiated.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Differentiate the role of media on reproduction of social gender by making critical media reading.
Relate between patriarchal discourse and sexist media policies.
Analyze which stereotypes are used to represent females and males in media tools.
Evaluate the effects of the social gender reproduced in television programs on the social life by using critical theory.
