OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The course aims to introduce students to the possibilities of alternative media claiming to be the voice of those who cannot be heard in the mainstream media and to provide students with the knowledge to answer the question of how an alternative journalism practice can be established against the mainstream media's problematic structure.
Contents of the Course Unit: The course, in providing historical and theoretical information about alternative media, includes alternative journalism approaches such as rights-oriented journalism, citizen journalism, and peace journalism.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Students will be able to analyse the current structural and practical problems in the mainstream media.
Students will be able to identify the possibilities of alternative media, which claims to be emancipatory and participatory in the face of mainstream media.
Students will be able to recognize alternative media organizations and their functions.
Students will be able to understand the types of alternative journalism.
Students will be able to associate concepts such as democracy, human rights, and civil society with journalism.
