Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The aim of this course is to teach the characteristics of the instruments and devices used in the electrophysiology laboratory and to provide fundamental knowledge and skills for obtaining safe and reliable electrophysiological recordings through proper organization of the laboratory environment (grounding, room temperature, and lighting).
Content: Within the scope of this course, the structure of electrophysiology laboratories; patient registration procedures; electrostatic, electromagnetic, and environmental sources of artifacts; cables; transcranial magnetic stimulators; EMG and EEG devices; surface and needle electrode types used in EMG (bar, disc, ring, concentric, monopolar, macro EMG, single-fiber, and injection needle electrodes); grounding and stimulator electrodes; intracranial recording electrodes; and the general principles of nerve measurements are covered.
