Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The student defines the function by integrating the basics of oral histological structure and embryonic development. He/she interprets the morphology-function relationship of different structures in the mouth.
Content: Differences in the epithelium lining the oral cavity, structural differences between the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the tongue, structural and functional properties of the papillae on the tongue, microscopic structure and distribution of taste buds, differences between the secretory parts of the major salivary glands and the duct systems, parts of the tooth, structural and functional properties of the layers in the tooth, basic embryonic development, head and neck development, jaw and tooth development, anomalies.
