Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course aims at defining the characteristics of African American narrative tradition, demonstrating the importance of black experience in American history in the development of ethnic literature and relating this unique black experience to African American literature.
Content: This course provides the students with a survey of representative works of Slavery Narratives, Reconstruction Era, the “New Negro,” the Harlem Renaissance, black modernism and postmodernism and helps them to engage in critical, political and textual discussion on the selected black works and significant movements.
