Code Name of the Course Unit Semester In-Class Hours (T+P) Credit ECTS Credit
CEN419 DESIGN OF RETAINING STRUCTURES 7 3 3 6

Objectives and Contents

Objectives: This course is aimed to introduce fundamental principles and theories of earth pressures, and study the design methods of various types of rigid and flexible retaining walls and support systems used in civil engineering practice.
Content: The course contains lateral earth pressure theories (Rankine/Coulomb), design criteria of rigid retaining structures, stability checks of retaining structures, flexible sheet pile walls, brace cuts and support systems, design of anchored support systems, and reinforced concrete design of retaining structures.
