OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to provide the students with theoretical background by focusing on the social effects of media.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include social effects of media.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Differentiate public/private area through given examples.
Relate the place of media in socialization process and the role on the social relations in the context of media sociology.
Analyze privatization and liberalization policies in media companies axis.
Evaluate alternative media, which is an important media organ of 21st Century, within framework of media sociology theories such as public area, identity, habitus taught in the course.
Support the importance of media literacy today with at least 3 examples.
Decide how many of the news in a prime-time bulletin watched are created by utilizing citizen journalism.
Compare two of the main arguments on communication research in Turkey.
Assess the sustainability of research made on the field.
