General Information

Aim of the Program

Aeronautical Engineering department  aims to train engineers in the design, production, testing, research and development, maintenance and repair of aircraft, aircraft engines, helicopters and all kinds of manned and unmanned vehicles in air and space. Aeronautical engineering requires the acquisition of engineering skills in areas such as aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control, propulsion, avionics, materials science and structural analysis. In addition, it is a strong interdisciplinary engineering field, which is in close relationship with engineering departments that provide education in the field of mechanics such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Civil Engineering as well as Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering.

Considering that the Aircraft and Space industry will continue to develop rapidly, and the breakthroughs in our defense industry will continue to grow together with civil and military aviation, it is necessary to fill the shortage of engineers who receive qualified Aeronautical Engineering education and to meet the needs of this industry. The Department of Aircraft Engineering aims to train aircraft engineers who will take an active role in the design and manufacture of new types of aircraft to be developed and produced by contributing to the technological development of the Turkish aircraft industry, where military and civil aircraft are concentrated, and will enable these engineers to create the human resources to carry out research and application studies on aircraft and general aviation. They will also be able to provide technical support for the maintenance and repair of military and civil aircraft.

Target of the Program

The biggest advantage of the students of this department is that aeronautical engineering is a constantly evolving profession, as aircraft technologies incorporate the most advanced technology applications in many engineering fields.

The purpose of the Department of Aircraft Engineering is to train Aircraft Engineers who can :

• Able to follow and use the latest technologies in aviation,

• Able to apply knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering,

• Able to design and conduct experiments and analyze the results,

• Able to design a system, part of the system or a process to meet the desired requirements, in the face of real limitations such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability,

• Able to work in multi-disciplinary teams,

• Able to diagnose, formulate and solve engineering problems,

• Able to understand professional and ethical responsibilities,

• Able to communicate effectively,

• Have the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context,

• Being aware of the necessity of lifelong education and being able to implement it,

• Able to follow and have knowledge of current issues related to their profession,

• Able to use techniques, skills and modern engineering tools required for engineering practice

Career Opportunities

Aeronautical Engineering graduates  can be employed in a wide area ranging from the defense, aircraft and space industry to the automotive industry. Turkey has taken important steps in the aviation and defense industry in recent years. For this reason, the need for trained personnel in the sector is also increasing. Aeronautical Engineers are intensively employed in the following areas, especially as production, design, R&D and maintenance engineers.

• Aviation and space related units of defense industry companies.

• Aircraft maintenance industry.

• Turkish Armed Forces aircraft/helicopter maintenance units.

• R&D companies, especially those in the aerospace sector.

• Airlines operation/management.

• Automotive, machinery, energy sectors.

Those who want to do master's and doctorate can find many alternatives both in our country and abroad. They can find the chance to become one of the sought-after academicians in the world by specializing in one of the subjects specified in their research fields.

Future of the Department

Turkey and is growing with a very high acceleration aerospace and aircraft industries in the world. The need for aeronautical engineers is increasing day by day. For this reason, the future of aeronautical engineers is quite bright. The aviation sector, which plays a major role in the globalization of countries, shows an unstoppable development. With the development of technology, the aviation sector will make an important progress in the future and will be an indispensable part of our lives. This rapid development of the sector will increase the need for employment in this field and offer many job opportunities. In our country, it will be a great advantage for the graduates of a limited number of aircraft engineers. Since aviation is a global concept, students graduating from this department will have both domestic and international opportunities.

Who Should Choose

It can be a suitable choice for individuals who are interested in aviation, have skills in courses such as mathematics and physics, have the ability to program for scientific calculations, are prone to use various engineering programs, and are focused on self-improvement by constantly following technological developments. It will also be a suitable choice for those who want to participate in various projects and competitions to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during education.
