Aim of the Program

Department of New Media and Communication department is composed of two disciplines such as communication and media, and it is an increasingly important department when considering today's technology conditions. While the emergence of new communication technologies change the communication systems, these developments require employees with the required knowledge. Department of New Media and Communication trains students to transfer qualified human resources with the researcher and innovative identity that the industry needs. Accordingly, Department of New Media and Communication courses are designed to provide students with theoretical knowledge in many areas such as basic journalism, media economy, media analysis and criticism, professional English, media and public criticism, social media and Internet journalism criticism, news writing techniques in media, social responsibility and media, presentation and presentation techniques.

 

Target of the Program

Our students are prepared in a well-equipped manner through the professional achievements they have achieved in the media and communication department. Our prior goal as a department is to make students able to apply theoretical knowledge they have gained by using information and communication technologies which they are able to adapt to living technological developments and innovations by using the information and skills they have and to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained by using information and communication technologies, read the media messages correctly, dominate the concepts of Internet journalism and citizen journalism, to become educated and equipped communicators who are capable of working within the framework of ethical principles with a critical and critical perspective, who are knowledgeable about the structural, managerial and technical aspects of the media, with a researching and innovative identity.

 

Career Opportunities

Our students who graduate from our New Media and Communication department also have the opportunity to work in the communication departments of private and public institutions, especially the media. Our students can work in positions such as new media specialist and communication specialist, which are shown among the future professions, as well as in positions such as reporter, editor, broadcast coordinator, editorial director, researcher and critic, which originally constitute the basic building blocks of the media. Our students, who are considering a career in the academic field, can continue their academic careers, if they wish, by fulfilling the necessary conditions.

 Students who graduated from the Department of New Media and Communication; He can work in newspapers, magazines, internet publishing, publishing houses, public-private press organizations, television, radio, social media agencies, advertising agencies, press public relations consultancy, news agencies, press public relations and corporate communication units in the public and private sectors.

Programmes allowing Horizontal Transfer

The Department of New Media and Communication accepts students with lateral transfer within the quota in accordance with the “Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfers” to associate/undergraduate programs.

 

Programmes allowing Vertical Transfer

All students who want to transfer to the New Media and Communication department with a Vertical Transfer are placed by OSYM if they take the Vertical Transfer Exam and get enough points. Students who fulfill all the requirements are thus entitled to receive a four-year undergraduate education at our school. In addition, if Istanbul Gelişim University associate degree students earn their paid quota with DGS, they have the opportunity to study with a 50% scholarship.
