OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to enable students to be able to look at the world mythology in a general framework, to read common symbols in mythos and to be able to realize their reflections in visual arts.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include transferring Greek, Scandinavian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Turkish mythologies, starting from the earliest civilizations, to students in general terms. Then, myths of creation, heroic archetype, symbolism in visual arts and reflections of myths in modern world will be examined.

Explain the concept of mythology.
Interpret the role of mythology in the field of mass communication.
Relate between the common symbols in the mythologies of different societies.
Outline Greek, Scandinavian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Turkish mythologies.
Analyze mythological symbols used in visual arts.
Perceive the reflections of mythology on the modern world.
