OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: At the end of the Periodontics course, students are expected to learn the principles of surgical and non-surgical treatments of diseases and conditions in the field of periodontics, and to be able to compare advanced diagnostic and treatment methods with traditional treatment methods and create treatment plans within an evidence-based framework from a multidisciplinary perspective.
Contents of the Course Unit: Effects of Systemic Conditions on Periodontium, Effects of Periodontal Inflammation on Systemic Health, Periodontal Treatment in Individuals with Systemic Diseases, Necrotizing Periodontal Diseases, Periodontitis Accompanying Systemic Diseases, Periodontal Abscess, Endodontic-Periodontal Lesions, Smoking and Periodontal Disease, Periodontal Diseases in Female Patients, Periodontal Disease in the Elderly, Bad Breath, General Principles of Periodontal Surgery, Gingival and Periodontal Surgery Techniques, Treatment of Gingival Enlargements, Periodontal Pocket Treatment, Resective Bone Surgery, Reconstructive Periodontal Surgery, Furcation Involvement and Treatment, Periodontal Plastic and Esthetic Surgery, Laser, Supportive Periodontal Treatment

Explains the application indications and principles of phase II periodontal surgery treatment. Lists the application areas and indications of gingival surgeries. Knows the treatment steps and healing stages by classifying gingival growths. Explains the indications, features of techniques and healing stages of periodontal flap surgery. Lists the indications, features of techniques and healing stages of resective bone surgery. Explains the indications, classification of materials used and healing stages of reconstructive bone surgery. Explains the classification of furcation defects and treatment steps. Lists the areas where plastic and aesthetic periodontal surgery is applied, its indications and techniques used. Lists the classification of autogenous platelet-derived biomaterials and their current areas of use. Explains the areas of use and current developments of Microsurgery and Laser in Periodontics. Explains the Supportive Periodontal Treatment phase and its relationship with other phases. Lists the Results of Periodontal Treatment. Knows the evidence-based decision-making process regarding periodontal treatment methods and evaluates cases in a multidisciplinary manner.
