OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of this course is for students to learn the theoretical approaches to the concept of culture and to know the discussions conducted on culture and its types today.
Contents of the Course Unit: The content of this course is; What is the concept of culture, the approach to the concept of culture in classical sociologists, the Frankfurt School and the culture industry, globalization and culture, popular culture, high culture, subculture, and cultural research in Turkey.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

It compares the approaches brought by classical sociologists regarding the concept of culture with each other.
Conducts a discussion on the concepts of popular culture, high culture and subculture, one of the types of culture.
Develops the basic approaches he has learned about the sociology of culture with examples from the society he lives in.
Theoretical knowledge about the concept of popular culture, media, music, etc. supports with examples from the fields.
Adapts theoretical discussions about the concept of culture to discussions about Turkey.
