OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: It is aimed to gain knowledge and attitudes about the functions of the structures that make up the cell, genetic material and related diseases.
Contents of the Course Unit: Chemical structure of the cell, structure of the cell, cell organelles, cell membrane structure, Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics, transcription, translation, chromatin and chromosome structure, cell cycle control, cell division polymorphism, DNA repair mechanisims, mutation, hereditary diseases, prenatal diagnosis and genetic counseling

Relate molecular structure with biological function.
Discuss the genetic origins of cellular diseases.
Give an example the biological importance of the major molecular structures found in living organisms.
Explain the organelles of the cell.
Explain the concepts of mutation.
Explain the basic concepts of genetics.
Relate the concepts of molecular biology and genetics at the basis of cell functioning.
Explain the molecule structures that make up the cell with their functions.
