OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS
Objectives of the Course Unit:	This course aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of lexicology, including word meaning, structure, and lexical relationships in English. It seeks to develop learners’ analytical skills in examining vocabulary from linguistic and translational perspectives. Special emphasis is placed on raising awareness of how lexical choices affect meaning, register, and equivalence in translation and interpreting contexts.
Contents of the Course Unit:	The course covers the scope of lexicology, word formation processes, semantic relations, polysemy, idiomaticity, and historical aspects of the lexicon. Students examine lexical variation, borrowing, and change, alongside the role of dictionaries and lexical resources. Examples and exercises encourage application of theory to authentic texts relevant to translation and interpreting practice.

By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze complex lexical items and explain relationships between words in different contexts. They will demonstrate improved ability to evaluate dictionary entries and lexical resources critically for translation and interpreting purposes. Students will also apply lexical knowledge to produce more precise, context-appropriate translations and interpretations.
