OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to handle the concept of gender in the framework of the issues such as family, politics, labour, patriarchal society, feminism, violence, with sociological meaning regardless of the biological meaning and to create student awareness especially about the place of women in society.
Contents of the Course Unit: Contents of the course include: the concept of gender, the cultural construction of gender, division of labour based on gender, patriarchal society, women's role in this society, relations of women with politics, education, family violence, law, labour concepts, feminist theories, women's movements in Turkey and in the world.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Knows the concept of gender with the social dimension and define the concept of gender.
Summarizes the theoretical approaches used in gender studies.
Interprets the relationship between women and social institutions such as family, social politics, education and law from a critical point of view.
Evaluate the structure of patriarchal society and provide examples of the concept of gender with examples from everyday life.
Gives examples of the women's movement in Turkey and in the world and evaluate the perspective developed through these courses related to these events.
Criticizes violence against women and design sociological solutions.
