OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS |
Objectives of the Course Unit: |
This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the emergence, historical development and method of cultural studies which is an interdisciplinary research area. In addition to this, it is aimed to provide students to comprehend the intersection points of fields such as cinema, sociology and history which see culture as a research object |
Contents of the Course Unit: |
Content of the course includes the history of cultural studies, fundemental research areas, British cultural studies, different approaches to the concept of culture, Frankfurt School, political economy and critical approach, popular culture, method discussions, Stuart Hall, ideology and culture, cultural identity, cultural studies in Turkey, social media and culture, cinema and visual culture. |

Summarizes Stuart Hall's contributions to cultural studies as a pioneer. |
Analyzes the relationship between cinema and culture through concrete examples. |
