OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: Objective of the course is to help students understand the foundation of Istanbul and its development process, historical, architectural, cultural and social aspects of Istanbul; similarities and differences between city, culture and architectural structures, the beginning of modern urbanization in Turkey, literary genre developed in the city environment, modernization movements in Turkey.

Explain the foundation and development process of Istanbul.
Examine the historical, architectural, cultural and social aspects of Istanbul.
Analyze the similarities and differences between city, culture and architectural structures.
Analyze how the literary genres developed since the beginning of modern urbanization in Turkey were affected by this phenomenon.
Assess the contribution of literary genre developed in an urban environment to the modernization movements in Turkey.
