OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: This course aims to introduce the basic practice of literary translation, the most common problems appearing in this context, as well as techniques and strategies of producing literary translations within the linguistic and cultural context of the translation culture. It is also aimed to provide the students with theories of translation, develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, make them use translation theories during the deep analysis of translations.
Contents of the Course Unit: This course covers translation theories and theorist in the field, information about how the translation theories contribute to the translation process and criticism are presented.

compare and contrast translation theories between nineteenth century and twentieth century.
indicate equivalence and equivalent effect in texts.
describe the translation shift approach in translation theory.
discuss functional theories of translation over English samples.
interpret discourse and register analysis approach within translated texts.
describe systems theories for translation and relate them to cultural studies.
evaluate the (in)visibility of translation while translating a foreign text.
