OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: The aim of the course is to enable students to understand and interpret the duties and responsibilities of shipping agents to the parties, their place in the legal regulation, the types of agencies and their importance for the shipowner, the agency assignment letters, and the basic documents.
Contents of the Course Unit: The definition of the shipping agency, who it is authorized to represent and its responsibilities to the parties, PDA contents and agency assignment letter samples, ship agency types and differences, the importance of documentation are explained and the documents are introduced.

The duties and types of shipping agents are defined.
It is learned to whom the shipping agencies serve.
The place of shipping agents in national legislation is known.
The services to be provided by the shipping agencies at the ports and the services they will provide in the strait and canal crossings are distinguished.
Documentation works of shipping agencies are learned.
Interprets which type of shipping agent will be authorized with which letter of assignment.
Explains the relations of shipping agents with official authorities.
