OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: It's aimed to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to planning, implementing, and monitoring disease-specific medical nutrition therapy for acute and chronic diseases observed in infants and children, while taking into account individual, cultural, and socioeconomic differences, along with the etiology, clinical symptoms, and complications of these diseases.
Contents of the Course Unit: Disease-specific nutritional approaches and the planning of appropriate medical nutrition therapy in children with poor appetite, obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 1 diabetes, eating disorders, kidney diseases, liver and pancreatic diseases, food allergies, neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders, and in children with disabilities.

Analyzes the growth, development, and nutritional status of infants and children and prepares dietary treatment.
Computes disease-specific energy and nutrient requirements and proposes current medical nutrition therapies.
Follows medical nutrition principles when creating a nutritional program for loss of appetite and eating disorders.
Identifies the causes of obesity and metabolic syndrome and follows medical nutrition principles when creating a nutritional program.
Follows medical nutrition principles when creating a nutritional program for diabetes in children.
Follows medical nutrition principles when creating a nutritional program for kidney, liver and pancreatic diseases.
Follows medical nutrition principles when creating a nutritional program for food allergies.
Follows medical nutrition principles when creating a nutritional program for neurodevelopmental and neurological diseases.
Traces clinical and biochemical techniques used in determining food intake and analyzes the results.
Differentiates medical nutrition therapy according to different eating habits, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic conditions.
