OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS

Objectives of the Course Unit: It’s aimed to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, the structure and function of nucleic acids, the role of vitamins and minerals, and the mechanisms of hunger and satiety.
Contents of the Course Unit: Carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, nucleic acids, vitamins, minerals, metabolic integration, alcohol and its metabolism, mechanisms of hunger and satiety.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE COURSE UNIT (On successful completion of this course unit, students/learners will or will be able to)

Explains the metabolic pathways of carbohydrates.
Explains the metabolic pathways of lipids.
Explains the metabolism, utilization by cells, and functions of vitamins and minerals.
Explains the importance of water and electrolytes in nutritional biochemistry.
Studies the synthesis, functions, and degradation of nucleic acids.
Relates the effects of nutrients on the metabolic dysfunction in the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters.
Outlines the importance of enzymes in biological life.
Uses the knowledge gained in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Responds to the pathways that influence hunger and satiety metabolism.
