Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the basic workshop equipment, measuring and marking tools used in the field of orthopedic prosthetics and orthotics technology; to teach them practical basic shaping operations such as cutting, sanding, filing, drilling, bending, and forging on metals and various materials; and to enable them to use joining methods such as screws, pins, rivets, and welding in accordance with safe working principles. Furthermore, it aims to enable students to understand the properties of metal materials, gain knowledge about processes such as stress relief, normalization, and annealing, and develop habits of working in accordance with occupational safety rules in a workshop environment.
Content: This course covers an introduction to vocational technology, principles of occupational safety and health, and instructions for using machinery and equipment in a workshop environment. Students are expected to become familiar with and use measurement and control systems, and to be able to accurately mark workpieces using marking tools. The course also provides basic information on machining and non-machining methods, the use of grinding machines, and metal materials used in orthopedic techniques (aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, steel, titanium, etc.). Furthermore, applications such as shaping workpieces using filing, drilling holes and countersinking using drills and drill bits are demonstrated. Cold forming methods, such as shaping metal materials by forging and bending, are taught practically. In addition, threading operations using dies and taps, and joining methods using bolts, nuts, pins, and rivets are covered. Welding machines and basic welding applications are introduced, and information is provided on heat treatment methods such as stress relief, normalization, and annealing of metal materials. All these processes are reinforced with practical work and equipment applications in a workshop environment.
