| Objectives: | The aim of this course is to teach students the fundamental concepts of orthotic science, its purposes of use, and design principles. In addition, the course aims to develop clinical decision-making skills by providing comprehensive theoretical knowledge on orthotic management strategies applied in lower and upper extremity and spinal pathologies, as well as on wheelchairs and assistive mobility devices. |
| Content: | Within the scope of the course, the definition of orthoses, their biomechanical classification, and the properties of materials used in fabrication are addressed. The content includes current orthotic approaches for lower extremity, spinal, and upper extremity pathologies, the mechanical effects of these devices on the human body, wheelchair technologies, and the principles of use of various mobility assistive devices. |
